2017 is a very important year for Europe. Personally, we are relieved that the strong Pro-European forces start to gather in all countries and point out how fruitful the last 60 years of European development have been. As EUSEM we strongly support all the Pro-European initiatives and we hope that our British colleagues decide to strengthen their participation in EUSEM despite the Brexit. To reinforce the European perspective of Emergency Medicine was the reason to have a yearly EUSEM congress and to stop the transatlantic partnership of the Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress (MEMC).
As Emergency Physicians, we strongly believe that the establishment of the specialty of Emergency Medicine has gained immensely from the dialogue between European countries. Collaboration opens up such tremendous opportunities to improve standards of care through research and education. However, there is still a lot to do!
Athens is the EUSEM 2017 congress city. A place that, throughout the ages, has promoted cultural, scientific, literary and artistic ideas that influenced European development, as well as the emergence of Medicine as a scientific phenomenon. By meeting in this ancient European town, now facing the challenges of the new globalised world, we prove that the European EM physicians stand on the same ground with solidarity. We could not have found a better place to meet in these trying times.
From former congresses, we know the tremendous hospitality of our Greek friends from the Hellenic Society of Emergency Medicine and we are sure that the congress will be a unique event for every visitor.
To this end, we would like to ask you to strengthen the European Concept by visiting EUSEM 2017 in Athens, September 23-27th.
